Default HCA checklist updated.

For collectors of H.C. Andersen I have just updated my checklist with these
issues.

Guyana 2005
http://hca.heindorffhus.dk/hca-guy2005-sheetlet.jpg

Danish Christmas Seals 2005
http://hca.heindorffhus.dk/hca-dk2005-sheet-large.jpg
The sheet is based on a selection of Andersen's famous and very decorative
paper cuts. It contains 50 labels in 25 se-tenant sets. All of the sets are
similar, yet different. In the upper selvedge appears Andersen's
characteristic profile, printed in red. The "live" sheet is much nicer than
the scan :-)

Although one can never be sure, I believe that this concludes the philatelic
celebration of his bicentenary ;-)

G'day Mette,
I was doing some research last week on "Candle Auctions",
and came across a peculiar story about HCA.
Apparently he had an inordinate fear of being buried alive,
and had standing instructions should he pass away.
Perhaps a "foible of the gifted" or just a myth.

G'day Rodney,
I wouldn't be surprised if it's true :-) There are so many myths
circulating about Andersen, but one thing is not a myth, simply because it
appears in his posthumously published diaries. He was scared stiff of being
caught in a fire, so he never travelled anywhere in Denmark, or in Europe
for that matter, without bringing a rope and an ax, so that he could save
himself just in case ... In those days hostels were not fire secured, or
otherwise safe.

Mette

I wonder what immigration would do these days
if you arrived at the border with an axe.

That one is easy to answer. You would be put behind bars immediately, until
you have justified carrying such a weapon!

Yesterday I wrote that maybe the philatelic celebration of H.C. Andersen was
concluded with the issuance of the Danish Christmas Seals 2005, but that one
could never be sure.

This is, indeed, the case! A correspondent from Down Under has just sent me
this link to a set of four Christmas Stamps from the Bahamas 2005, showing
four illustrations to his fairy tales
http://www.sovereignstamps.co.uk/sea...viewstamp=8312

Thanks Jill :-)

Regards
Mette
