Default Honda in racing

why aren't you driving a Honda then ?
I do have a CB350K, but when it comes to automobiles no thanks.
I can't remember the last vehicle I purchased based on Indy 500 stats but I
suspect it was never.
and get in line behind Chevy, Ford, and Olds...like Ricky and Boob

I still can not understand the scuttling of the Oldsmobile, my
favourite GM division. What were they thinking?

Oldsmobile ceased being Oldsmobile in 1986, last year of any "Rocket"
engines at all. The slide started in 1975, when GM dictated a "slight
of hand" by putting Chevy 350s in SOME Olds Omegas in that year, while
others (the ones with more options) indiscriminately got Olds 350s, a
great engine in comparison.

By the time they got rid of Olds, it was, for the most part, a "badge
engineered" GM ****box, with the now-corporate Buick V6 and faulty
L60E transaxle, indifferent styling and options and other typical GM
trash. Knowing they were in trouble, GM allowed the development of
the slow selling Aurora, which really was quite a nice car, replete
with Cadillac Northstar drivetrain...made in Japan, for the most part.
The Alero and Intrigue were simply rebadged and freshened Chevies, and
the public saw no reason to spend more money for a lesser car. This
is the exact inverse of what Sloan invented in the '30s, when they had
a collection of divisions with distinctively different, price graded
product lines, each with its own independent management, strategies,
designs (to a certain degree) which shared core financial and research
capabilities. It was Roger Smith, GM's worst CEO ever, to complete
the destruction of the Sloan GM business model. Lee Iacocca,
according to his writings, just doesn't get it...after all, since
1958, Mercs were just a gussied up Ford anyway, and he thought GM
products were that way, too. Some engineer HE is.

Update: Mercury probably disappear in two more years as Ford
reorganization continues. Lincoln will continue solo. Ford was never
terribly successful competing against Olds and Buick, as well as
Chrysler, in the "upper priced" field, although the L-M Division had a
big hit with the Mustang-based Cougar in '67 and onward. Reason: Not
all car buyers are stupid about what's inside a car, and most know
that any Merc now is simply a rebadged Ford with more cushy options,
just as almost all Oldses in the '80s and '90s were rebadged Chevies,
just as all Plymouths were essentially stripped down Dodges, and
later, Chryslers. Next brand to fall after Merc: Dodge. After more
sliding sales, Cerberus will cut the lean instead of the fat (which
would be their heads) and gut the Dodge brand as an economy move,
making all Chryslers, Chryslers. Chrysler, of course, has been in big
trouble ever since Iacocca left. Iacocca's biggest finale: The LH
cars...Intrepid, Talon and Concorde...these were really well designed
and hot looking cars with excellent function, for an American car,
much like was the late '80s Ford Taurus, which Iacocca dubbed, "the
potato car." He changes his paradigm as soon as Ford threatened GM in
sales with their "potato car," and Iacocca started making his own.

Once this "fat trimming" in Detroit gets underway, watch for Honda,
Nissan and even Toyota to introduce new "mid-prices" marques to take
their places. Note how Toyota's already done that on the entry market
with the Scion marque, which took the youth market completely away
from Detroit.

GM...the worst there is...an automaker fit only for a turd like
Charlie Nudo.

Toyota brought them mainstream. snip

Not only that, but Toyota now has a plant working 3 shifts producing
Priuses (Prii??) and they STILL cannot fill orders fast enough. *In
LA, there is a 60 day wait for either a Prius OR a Honda Accord
Hybrid.

yet you don't have the money to buy one, because you have no job

next question...

The public always assumed a GM 350 was the same from division
to division. Even when they weren't. Unless they had brother-in-laws steeped
in Oldsmobile lore, that is. Thanks for the clarification.

Interesting video. Actually nice to see some Yankee "jingoism"
for a change. Good for Vic.
