trips to Egypt or anywhere in the mideast at this time. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...AXQXw&refer=uk |

Don't know if this is region specific (I am in Europe), anyway, the following link points at an article that has the same headline as your original message: http://www.newkerala.com/news2.php?a...llnews&id=6533 And no, I don't think either that Islamic countries are "top destinations" of Danish or Norwegian tourists these days ... Christian The govts. of western Europe would like the muslims to integrate into society but that does not seem to be happening to any great degree. They number around 15 million and growing. Something has to give from one side or the other or culture clashes are bound to keep happening in the future. |

Well, I will say that the
protests in the Middle East, Christian, are not represenative of most Muslims of Lebanon or Syria. In Damascus, the Syrian government allowed the protest to occur in order to distract their population from the pressures of needed reforms there. Syrian liberals are demanding reform and so are the U.S., France, and the E.U. If Syrian liberals want to meet and discuss civil liberties, they may be blocked by the Syrian police. I don't think they expected the embassies to get burned in Damascus and then the next day they encouraged what happened in Lebanon possibly so they would not look like they were the only ones that did that to the embassy. More than half of those arrested in Lebanon were Syrian citizens including members of the PFLP or the Palestinian Socialist party that has a branch in Damascus. I think things will cool down in the region eventually. Many people condemned the protests in the Middle East as very bad and unproductive including newspapers. Of course, I do support the European countries to build relations with their Muslim citizens, engage in better dialogue, encourage more sensitivity on both sides and also to strip the citizenship of anyone who calls for violence or terrorism like those British citizens who had the sign 7/7. I think that eventually things will possibly get better for all those concerned. And at least these events create discussion in the Middle East that needs to occur. |

I think it depends. You cannot generalize
all immigrants. Turkish or Albanian or even Bosnian Muslims who are to some extent native European Muslims are far more moderate and relate to European culture far more. That is less true for Turkey, but Turkey in the last 20 years has advanced significantly and its population is far more moderate than Arab countries especially when compared to the people of the Maghreb. However, many from the Maghreb have integrated. However, the EU should limit the amount of immigration coming from the Maghreb so the rest can integrate. Obviously, the more they are concentrated in such a short time the worse it is and it is the same in the U.S. with too many Hispanics coming in too many numbers at one time. A country needs to be able to absorb the population and if it does not follow that approach it will alarm the native European population and make the immigrant population less assimilated. |

Sooooo.. how about if the next time someone burns a U.S. flag in Egypt
(or other Arab country) the state dept. throughs them on the unallowed list for travel and we burn their embassy down? Do you think they would understand? Somehow, they would say "it's different." |
