Default old travels books

Hi,
I've juste created a page presenting some old travels books I collected
for years and years; the descriptions of these books are in french; I'm
thinking to translate them later.

Thank you for your comments, if any

Fred,

Thank you for sharing these.

French publications are so very different from those most of us here are
familiar with. First editions very often seem to comprise limited
printings of different kinds (de luxe copies, copies for private
distribution, etc.). Your copy of Alaux, Vasco de Gama, for example is
described as "Exemplaire numéroté 322". Is this an example of a special
printing as part of the first edition, or is it a separate limited
edition? How many numbered copies would there have been in total?

Binding is also regarded quite differently, I believe. Am I right in
thinking that, unlike English books, which are usually most prized in
their original binding, rebinding is the norm? I notice that the
majority of the books on your shelves appear to have a fairly similar
red leather binding. Did you have these bound yourself, or did they
simply come that way?

If you ever have the time and energy, it would be lovely to see
individual images of these books (title page, etc.).

Once again, thank you for putting these descriptions online.

John
