M.O.O.N. report
Just returned from the annual Minnesota Organization Of Numismatists show in
Minneapolis. Business was very steady throughout the 3 days with the aisles filled with buyers and even occasional periods where people actually had to wait to check out items on some tables. I filled quite a few needs purchasing a good number of late date proof sets in preparation for the Xmas season and also replenishing my BU fractional gold eagle date inventory which had developed some holes over the summer and early fall. Bought a couple of "neat" Panda items, but sold them before I left the show. Really wanted to see if I could get a couple of Bidiots to fight over a quarter oz gold and quarter oz platinum 1990 set I bought in a really cool wooden carved box. Sometimes items like that go wild on Ebay, but we'll never know...;-) Found 11 gold eagle BU year sets and restocked the Morgan dollars I needed at one table. Talked to quite a few Lincoln and Indian collectors and sold a few nice coins, including a 1910 blazer and an 1890 full red Indian and nice RB 1883. There seemed to a lot of people really interested in buying and selling. The show was very active at all times with no Sunday let up. While 7 dealers left Saturday night for the Madison, WI Sunday show (WHY, WHY, WHY do show promoters insist on ignoring conflicts and schedule good shows on the same day?) they were filled on Sunday by others. In my case, the table next to me was manned on Sunday by a Professional Currency Grader offering free opinions and instructions about paper money. I was happy to have my best day on Sunday as were a couple of other dealers I talked to. It was very difficult to decide to give my Madison table, but I had reserved tables at both shows and had to make a decision. I understand that the Madison show was very active, also. Got a last minute offer from a dealer/friend to share a table at the Des Moines show this coming weekend. The shuffling of dates here in early November had left us without a table there, but John Jackson of Sioux City's J & J Coins graciously offered to give up one of his tables so that I & another dealer could go. Looking forward to another excellent show there. dondi3 DONDI enterprises. BUY, SELL, TRADE. RARE COINS & PRECIOUS METALS Member COINNET, CSNS, ANA, INA, MOON, ILNA. |

One quarter oz platinum proof and a quarter oz gold BU...in a very nice hand carved hinged wooden box.. COA said the mintage was limited to 300 sets. The box was pretty enough to set on your coffee table as a decoration. Really wanted to ebay that one. Bought & sold a pair of 1983 half oz gold Panda coins, 2nd year of issue for that one. Also sold a 5 pc 1987 gold proof set. Nearly bought a complete set of quarter oz BU Pandas from 1982 thru 2000, but the guy sold it to his son-in-law instead. Must have been my weekend for pandas...;-) Dondi3 DONDI enterprises. BUY, SELL, TRADE. RARE COINS & PRECIOUS METALS Member COINNET, CSNS, ANA, INA, MOON, ILNA. |

I had offered $3 over melt per coin...he sold it to his son-in-law for melt... I had bought way too much and would have had to blow it off before going home...I think he would have sold it to me for $5/oz over melt...but the only coin worth a premium is the 1982 and that doesn't offset getting only melt (or less) for the other 18 coins...plus the fact that some (most, IIRC) were not in their original pouches, etc. ....but it would have been somebody's bargain. He said he thought his son-in-law was going to put them up on ebay...so you might do some searches on quarter oz Pandas and see what happens. dondi3 DONDI enterprises. BUY, SELL, TRADE.
