(RCSD) Looking Back #198 - Seebeck
Seebeck
Nicholas Frederick Seebeck collaborated with the Hamilton Bank Note Company of New York to supply (in 1889) certain South American States with most attractive sets of postage stamps free of charge. The authorities concerned -- Ecuador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Salvador -- are stated to have agreed to accept a new issue annually, to demonetize the obsolete set, and to return all the unsold remainders to Seebeck, the agent. In addition, the contractor was authorised to use the original plates to make such reprints as the Company might require to meet the demand of stamp dealers and collectors. The affected issues are said to be: Ecuador 1892-6; Honduras 1890-5; Nicaragua 1890-9; and Salvador 1890-9. These are known as the "Seebeck" issues and/or reprints. - R. J. Sutton 6th edition revised by K. W. Anthony The Stamp Collector's Encyclopaedia Published 1966 |
