This WWI U.S. Base Hospital Book titled, (Album De La Guerre, Picture Book
of the First Over There) is in excellent condition. This book is a limited
edition (to 1,000 copies) and published by members of the Base Hospital No.
4, USA (serving with the British Forces on the Some Front) and Mobile
Hospital No. 5, USA (serving in the Meuse-Argonne Sector). These units were
apart of the First organization of American Expeditionary Troops to enter
active service abroad with the American, British, and French Forces. The
book is published by the Scientific Illustrating Studios, The Dodd Co.
Building, Cleveland, Ohio, First Edition, Copyright 1919. This particular
book is Book Number 129. The book is a comprehensive picture album (with
descriptions) covering the period of 23 months from May 8, 1917 to April 8th
1919. There are over 500 photographs, 70 drawings, and 13 articles from the
units, covering Base Hospital operations over in France, casualties, every
day life, prisoners, bombed-out villages, and much more. The last part of
the book has the unit Roster of Base Hospital #4 that includes the nurses,
doctors, servicemen assigned to the unit, and civilian employees of the
unit. The book measures 13 1/2 inches x 12 inches. The book is in excellent
condition. There are no loose or missing pages, no tears, stains, or water
marks. The spine is still nice and solid. A nice rare book on the first
hospital units to arrive in France.
