I haven't been collecting for the last 5 years and am wondering if someone
could tell me a few things(NB I used to collect MLB cards);

1)What is the state of the industry/market for new AND old/vintage cards
2)What is the state of the new products coming out in terms of value for
money.
3)Are grading companies still prominent and are graded cards still traded
heavily
4)Have game used cards lost their appeal. It seems any card company can buy
a players bat and cut it up into 1000 pieces and put it on their cards over
the space of 3 years(and that is just 1 bat)

Additional more specific question

5)When a company produces reprints do they ALWAYS show on the cards that
they are reprints?

I hope someone can help me. About 5 years ago I visited this forum and there
was 1000's of posts and now there seems to be no one here. If anyone can
point me in the right direction then that would be great.

I have just started recollecting.

The state of the industry for new cards is weak. Many companies have
fallen by the wayside. The state for vintage cards is good.

New products. Value for money is not good. The industry is trying to
reduce supply by having only a few companies make cards.

Grading companies. They are fairly prominent, but only for established
players and companies. I think PSA and BGS are still in the running,
with SGC somewhere in there and the rest a distant ways away. Vintage
cards are more likely to hold value.

Game used cards have lost their appeal greatly. One of the problems is
too many, and there are too many cards of the players that aren't
popular. Back in the early days, you could only get jerseys of players
of superstars. Now, you can get jerseys of people you've never even
heard of.

Don't know whether they show that cards are reprints or not.
