Default Copper Question

On Wed, 02 Jul 2003 14:27:28 -0400, Cliff is alleged to
have written:

I got a nice 1854 Large Cent. The reverse is rotated so that when
viewing the coin "heads up" and then flip it over bottom to top, the
"one cent" is in the 6 or 7 minute postion on a clock face (so 7 ticks
from the 12). Does this add or detract from the value of the coin?
You can tell I'm not a copper person (yet).
Cliff

Reverses rotated to varying degrees are common among large cents. I know of at
least two "clock" sets, where the idea is to have at least 12 coins with the
appropriate o'clock rotation.

It doesn't hurt the value of the coin at all, and IMO adds interest to the
piece. All else equal, I'd take the rotated reverse coin over a normal reverse.
You might get a small price boost from a clock collector if he needed that
rotation.

You're a copper person. Anybody who takes the trouble to find a 7:00 rotation on
a 1854 large cent is PLENTY anal retentive enough to join EAC.
