Do folks actually do this?
Two things about this auction --
1. Why would the seller not spend a few bucks to have the coin certified? 2. Would anyone actually risk spending 7 grand on a raw coin like this? http://cgi.ebay.com/1937-D-3-Legged-...mZ260009350989 Amistad 'has no limping beasts in my herd' |

Altered surfaces, or 2. Suspicious color, or 3. Not genuine (although it looks okay from what little I can se in the photos) There is also the possibility that the coin is an AU-55/58 even if genuine and the seller thinks he can boost its market value by describing as Gem Uncirculated since a high end AU is worth $1500-$1800, a far cry from the $6950 he hopes to get. It could also be an AU with one of the three issues described above. He waiting, perhaps, for one of the suckers born every minute to step up to the plate. Ira |

Maybe it's just the "intence light from the scanner" but it doesn't look like such a gem coin to me. Just my 2 cents. Yeah but did you check out all the negatives??? Pattern there.................. did carve unto the very living rock upon which we now stand: Two things about this auction -- 1. Why would the seller not spend a few bucks to have the coin certified? 2. Would anyone actually risk spending 7 grand on a raw coin like this? http://cgi.ebay.com/1937-D-3-Legged-...mZ260009350989 IN the Q&A section at the bottom he references that this is from a $100,000 collection of which part was a 37-D 3 legger that is slabbed by PCGS (though not offered for auction). So the seller is aware of PCGS (thus he cannot claim ignorance about the existance of THG's in general and PCGS specifically). The collector who left the "estate" was obviously aware of THGs and PCGS since there were other PCGS slabs in the "estate", so no apparent ignorance there. Which still begs the ?: "Why isn't this fine specimin slabbed?" I agree with others, it's fake, altered or some other BB problem. The seller also tries to keep folks from right clicking over the page to "steal" his precious images (though when using Firefox you get the alert and then you get the pop-up menu that lets you steam em anyway if so inclined) with a little bit of javascript. Steve Buy the book before the coin don't forget to *READ* the book after you've bought it! It doesn't do anything just sitting on the shelf (remove ATTITUDE to reply via e-mail) It's more than you think: http://www.premierpersonalization.com |

There is only one die in which the D mintmark is tilted very slightly
to the left. On this coin, the mintmark looks to be decidedly tilting to the right. And the dignostics of this variety have been overemphasized. I think its a cleverly altered normal 37-D, or else a struck counterfeit. |
