Book Stores in Charleston, South Carolina?

Any suggestions for good antiquarian book stores in Charleston, South
Carolina.

I don't remember the name, but a few years ago I ran into an excellent one
while visiting the downtown antique dealing area. Good luck stumbling onto it.
Oh, get your wallet out, there were no underpriced items.

Was it in a little wooden house in the older part of the city centre, run
by a couple in their 50s/60s? Likewise I can't recall the name - maybe a
local in the newsgroup can - but I remember Charleston being good for
books.

BTW, and OT, the Cypress Low Country Grille (I think that is the
precise name) in Charleston is one of the best places I've ever eaten.
Neither enormously fancy nor absurdly expensive - but everything from
oysters to espresso spot-on perfect, impossible to find fault in food or
service.

I recently returned from a long weekend in Charleston. I was surprised
on the lack of any good book store that wasn't a Barnes and Noble. The
yellow pages mentioned an Atlantic Books SC on King; however, when I
found the address, the store was empty. All that remained was the
sign.

There was a bookstore further north on King; however, this was simply
a used bookstore--nothing I could see as collectible.

BTW, if you are looking for a good restaurant check out Poogan's
Porch, especially breakfast. It is located on Queen St. between
Meeting and King.

In my bookstore lists for the United States, South Carolina and Nebraska
are the only two states for which I have no listings.

There were two branches of Atlantic Books in Charleston, run by a
couple and their son. Within the last year, they lost both leases and
have moved the main store here to Asheville NC (Atlantic Books & Folk
Art) and their son to Waynesville NC. They had always vacationed up
here in Wolf Laurel so knew the area well, although Asheville was
replete with good used bookstore before they came, so that may be why
they're heavily into folk art now.

Yes, it does. Probably the highest level one is Captain's Bookshelf,
ABAA. Then comes three stores that are what i called "good" used
bookstores; i.e. they have both pb and hb in nearly all categories and
have some top quality firsts and signed and antiquarian books, and
they trade (these stores are Downtown Books and News, Reader's Corner,
and Lin Digs Books [me]). Then come all the pb trade places that
specialize in romance and western -- I wasn't even thinking of them
but we have them.

I used the word "replete" because Asheville has less then 80,000
people and I think four bookstores of our quality is high. I think the
whole of Buncombe County has gotten up to about 125,000 people.

There's a binder who lives in Brevard (about 40mi away) who retired
from the Library of Congress as a conservator and binder. Naturally,
he's totally swamped. And there's another binder who lives about 65 mi
away who's good but not superb.
