This book titled, British Pewter and Britannia Metal for Pleasure and
Investment, by Christopher A. Peal is in its original dust jacket and in
excellent condition. It is published by Peebles Press, New York/London, 1st
Edition, Copyright 1971. The book is 200 pages and is a comprehensive study
on British Pewter from Romano-British Period (early Medieval to 15th
Century), through the 1600s, 1770s, and 1800s. Specific works from Welsh,
Irish, and Channel Isle pewter is also described. There are also chapters on
Britannia Metal and Fakes/Reproductions. The book is full of photographs and
manufacturers marks with pictures of the makers symbols. There is a section
on the (Official Stamp Numbers) with a cross reference to the cities and
districts. There is also a section that has a cross reference of Pewter
shapes relative to the time period (i.e. styles of bodies, fillets,
thumb-pieces, handles, and finials. The book measures 8 inches x 10 ½
inches. Both the book and dust jacket are in excellent condition. There are
no loose or missing pages, no tears, stains, or water marks. This is a great
reference for anyone collecting British Pewter.
