US Scott 321 cancel question
At the bottom of the current request list is a strange cancel on a
questionable copy of Scott #321 (1908, 2c red Washington, vertical coil stamp). Our question is: US Scott 321. This appears to be a fabrication of a very expensive stamp. The cancellation is very strange. Can anyone identify it? Link is: cjoint.com/?dhqARFsOK2 My friend and I agree that the stamp looks like a sheet margin copy with the perfs. trimmed off on the left side. The cancel has a format similar to U.S. parcel post cancels, but neither he nor I knows enough about U.S. cancels of this era to make a good guess about what it is, nor about whether it makes the stamp more or less likely to be genuine. As always, any information would be appreciated. Stan |

I'll pass the idea on to my friend. My limited experience suggests that both registered mail and parcel post cancels were similarly oval, so that would fit. Stan |
