8-tracks are often played through tube amps- so you're mistaken
furthermo here it is: The purpose of alt.collecting.8-track-tapes is to provide a gathering place for the widely scattered 8-track-tape collectors on the net. In addition to serving as a focal point, this newsgroup will (1) facilitate activities such as buying/selling/trading 8-track tapes and playback equipment; (2) help collectors find new sources of tapes and players in the face of an ever-dwindling supply; and (3) provide a place to discusss 8-tracking in the 1990s, including recent 8-track releases by independent record labels.. Finally, the newsgroup will be a forum for the various philosophies engendered by the hobby (e.g., analog vs. digital sound). |

Monster Cable vs. Coat Hanger
I thought folks might find this amusing. Courtesy of consumerist
http://consumerist.com/362926/do-coa...monster-cables Can you tell the difference between music that passed through a pricey Monster stereo Cable, and a coat hanger? A reader forwarded us a post from the Audioholics Home Theater Forum and its author says no. He says his brother ran an experiment on him and four other audio aficionados listening to a new CD from a new group blindfolded. Seven different songs were played, each time heard with the speaker hooked up to Monster Cables, and the other time, hooked up to coat hanger wire. Nobody could determine which was the Monster Cable and which was the coat hanger. The kicker? None of the subjects even knew that coat hangers were going to be used. This is, of course, "nothing new," a Google of "monster cables vs coat hangers" shows that some users have been saying this for a while. Still, this is an experiment begging to be recreated under controlled conditions (say, for instance, a double-blind test). Science fair project! Read how it went down, inside... |

However, they ARE well made and do have double shielding and interruptible grounds. So do my homemade cables with gold plated connectors. Price per cable: around $2 apiece. |
