German stamp identification?
Hi Rodney:
OK I'm awake again. There is no way to adjust the resolution on my Epson. There are 5 choices Draft, Text, Text & Images, Photo and best Photo. Mine is set for Text which must be the default setting since I have never looked at it before. In other words my scannerr is idiot proof. |

German stamp identification?
Thanks T,
what impressed me was the clarity at 220 Kb a very nice mix indeed sir, for a *.jpg. Possibly, the perfect mix for an e album. I am a great supporter of idiot proof engines the cynosure is on stamps, and their presentation rather than the perifery. I am still not happy with my "Epson Perfection" If you happen to read this, can you offer advice if your model Epson offers multiple scans from the single button press? (one just marks each stamp image by a carousel, and the machine makes multiple passes) and........if the scanner offers "auto rotate alignment". (still a burr under my saddle, I need to scratch) I will in the meantime, Google for the info. Noel. German stamp identification?
Hello,
I think there was a little mistake in my description of the clerk's job: 2000 4000 (6000) (8000) (10000) (12000) (14000) ... (20000) 200 200 sold sold sold sold sold sold 200 200 sold ..... 200 200 sold 200 200 sold 200 200 sold 200 200 sold 200 200 sold 200 200 sold 200 200 200 200 200 200 200 200 200 The clerk always sold the stamps of a bow row for row from TOP to DOWN and from right to left. After day's work he could count in this example: 3 x 200 + 4000 = 4600 M. Regards Peter |

Just out of curiosity, Gerhard: a single stamp scanned 1:1 on my Canon at 300 dpi and saved *uncompressed* comes to: 110 - 130 kb as a gif; 130 -150 kb as a jpg; and 350 - 380 kb as a png. How do you get it down to 50-70 kb? Do you compress? Thanks in advance. --- Tony Vella in Ottawa, Canada |

Noel, Gerhard. I have the Epson perfection 1670 I use 300dpi "professional mode" and mine come out at around 220Kb. When I rotate and crop, the image balloons to about 600Kb so I have to "adjust" via ACDSee to bring it to heel at 200Kb. Gerhard, does your model "auto rotate" the scan? I find this lack of software to be utterly frustrating. Oherwise this scanner would suit reasonably well, however I do find it hogs memory, and on occaisions after a large job lot, have to do a cold reboot. May your new years resolutions be reasonable Rodney -- pookiethai at iprimus.com.au "Gerhard Reichert" wrote in message ... | | "Rodney" schrieb im Newsbeitrag | ... | Thanks T, | what impressed me was the clarity at 220 Kb | snap | | Good day Sir Rodney, | | I use an Epson perfection 2580 Photo -scanner, professional mode, 300 dpi, | original size 1:1; the results are very fine pictures of 50 kb to 75 kb. scanner resolution for stamps , was: German stamp identification?
Hi again Sir Rodney and and Tony,
I forgot to mention, that i scan only with 24 Bit colour and not with 48 Bit colour :-). So the scans are essentially smaller and You need no compression. I only scan to .jpg. As Sir Rodney wrote, the rotation problem is the same here, so You have to put the stamp correctly on the scanner glass (head of the stamp parallel to the left site of the scanner). Otherwise You have to rotate and get 300 kb or more. Try it :-) In my humble opinion 24 Bit colour is more than enough for a stamp scan. best regards Gerhard |

"snap Some more information: 24 Bit colour depth means 16.7 Millions of different colours can be shown. ..jpg- pictures cannot show more than these 16.7 different colours; only special picture-formats like .tif are able to work with more than 24 Bit colour depth. take a look at wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_depth best regards Gerhard |

G'day Gerhard,
I just checked my scanner, it had indeed been defaulted to scan at 24 Bit as you recommend. | Hi again Sir Rodney and and Tony, | I forgot to mention, that i scan only with 24 Bit colour and not with 48 Bit | colour :-). | So the scans are essentially smaller and You need no compression.
