You're kidding me! I would have bet my false teeth that was a military strike. How can a NWPI have a Sydney cancel, that sounds rather rare to me, possibly a cruise? How do you know Blair? Well, I'll bet they were valid for use in Oz. (You might wish to check that one with Auspost) If so, someone might have carried it in his pocket and used it to post a letter upon arrival. Also I suspect much international mail from NWPI was routed via Sydney. Sydney/22 has been seen on such mail as Paquebot covers, so that suggests that it was used at a transit / forwarding point within the Sydney PO. It could have been from a ship travelling to Sydney from NWPI. Other NWPI stamps have been seen with this cancel. (to at least 1929, if not later) One sold earlier this year in a NZ auction. Sorry I don't have the price realized. Blair |

Thank you very much for your research Blair, very interesting. We had a member here Mr. Robert Benoit who specialised, but I could not find him, and his Websites have closed. Although I did read his 2004 overprint forgeries in Gibbons Stamp Monthly. I would like very much to confirm they were valid in Aust. Cheers Rodney "Blair (TC)" Well, I'll bet they were valid for use in Oz.
