choosing a coin auction house
I am going to auction a large collection of Morgan dollars and some
other stuff. I have heard of Heritage and Stacks. Can anyone recommend any other good auction houses, or anyone I should definitely avoid? Thanks. |

choosing a coin auction house

furiously and spewed this bit of prattle: I am going to auction a large collection of Morgan dollars and some other stuff. I have heard of Heritage and Stacks. I sold some coins there and while it took a while for some of them to sell, it was very easy and hassle-free. Also, their fees are lower than Heritage. Heritage is ok, but their fees (buyer and seller) are so high that it will eat into your proceeds big time. Just a thought. Good Luck! KC |

KC On the other hand, virtually nobody promotes the auctions and the major coins within like Heritage. If you have a collection with major rarities and a value of over $300,000 for the collection, you might be able to negotiate a fee of 105% of hammer, which will, of course, net you about 10% more than the 95% of hammer which is their commonly quoted rate. IIRC, David Lawrence still charges a 15% buyers fee as well as most of the the other major auction companies. For more modestly priced items, however, if that's the composition of the collection, then I would also recommend David Lawrence. Ira |
