Default Polish state mint offers e-auctions of post 1945 coins and banknotes

Przekroj, in a double week edition, looks at e-auctions with a focus on
packages of post-1945 coins and banknotes offered by the State Mint.
Even though redenomination of several years ago changed the value of
the zloty according to a 1 to 10 thousand ratio, many of the samples go
at 1 to 1 like, for example, the rare 1982 one zloty from the martial
law period in Poland, while the famous aluminum 5 zloty coin with a
fisherman on the averse dating from 1958 sells for 232 new zloties a
piece. Equally interesting are collections of banknotes from various
post-war periods, including the 100 and 5oo thousand, as well as 1 and
2 million bills from the times of raging three digit inflation.
According to changing fortunes of political correctness, they bore the
images of popular Poles, ranging from kings, through scientists to
simple "working class" representatives. They could be divided into
a number of categories, but they have one common feature, as Jerzy
Pilch - a prominent Polish writer - had discovered. Except for
astronomer Nicolas Copernicus, all depicted personalities, both ancient
and recent, have one of their ears uncovered. As if for a passport
photo, observes Pilch. So, where could they all be heading?
