TECH - Rowe CD100 CD player skipping during play

Just picked up a CD100 and would like to keep it, but all of a sudden
it started skipping (first day or two it played fine). I thought it
might be the cold weather so I brought it into the basement last
night, but still skips. So now I have a whole slough of questions:

Is there anything I can do to fix this one and make it behave
correctly? Check/replace connectors? What do I look for?

Should I upgrade to a Pro Player? What all do I need to convert -
just the player or do I need to upgrade something else too, buy
supplemental boards or e-proms? I guy I work with claims to have a
Pro player he would sell, but cannot confirm I have everything else I
need.

Should I convert to MP3? I sort of hate to spend that much because
the Juke will stay with the house when we sell it in a couple of years
as it was a bitch to get down the steps (story in itself).
