more recent painter, Ivan Kobilca."

Ivana, not Ivan! She, not he. A wonderful artist.

Anka, I found this interesting link showing all the Slovenian banknotes and
brief biographies.

Thank you! They are beautiful bank notes, aren't they? Luckily, I
have a few stashed away as suvenirs, nothing pristine though.

We sang Gallus' Resonet in Laudibus for our Christmas concert, a
relative of Jakopic is an acquintence of mine, and my daughter dated
Plecnik's great nephew. Slovenia is a small country. ;-)

They are indeed, in fact they are among the most beautiful in the
world, and it's a tragedy that they are being replaced by those dreary
committee-designed euro-things. As for being afraid of inflation: no
need to be "afraid" --- it's a certainty. Let's just pray that
beautiful Slovenia won't become as expensive as Italy next door.

Hi Anka,

If you don't mind me asking, where are you from? Do you live in the Balkans?

Kind regards,
Mame du Bois

Hint: Not every bank note designer whose name you do not know is an
anonymous "committee". ;-)

As for being afraid of inflation: no need to be "afraid" --- it's a

Just as the obvious difference between the perceived inflation
("everything is twice as expensive as before") and the inflation rate in
most euro countries in 2002/03 (below 1 and 2 percent), right ...
