Default Help US Silver Dollar Half Dollar Quarter & Dimes Help

Hello. I'm new to this newsgroup because I found over 2600 silver
coins dating from 1854 to 1964 after my dad died. My question to the
group is:
1. How would I determine the grades? Most have not been care for in
the manner that a collector would care for a coin.
2. How do I locate a reputable numismatist in the Indianapolis area?
3. Can I expect to sell all the coin to one individual or company?

If you want to do this in an informed way (I would suggest that), buy a
copy of the red book (by Yeoman), and see what you have. Basically,
there's junk silver, and there are coins which have a premium value due
to date and condition. DON'T CLEAN ANYTHING WITH ANYTHING!!! Buy the
redbook, see what you're dealing wit, and go from there. There are guys
here (hint...) who aren't dealers but might be interested in buying what
you have, or making an offer based on descriptions and so on. For
common dates/grades, you'll probably get about a dollar an ounce below
melt price from the dealer; an individual would be more likely to make
the trade right at the current spot price. You can get an idea of that
value at
http://www.coinflation.com/ - click on the "silver coin value
calculator" I think it's called.

If you find anything you're not sure of, or want more info on, there's
lots of smart people here who will be able to help you understand what
you have. Just going in to a random coin store and saying "I have no
idea what this stuff is, what's it worth" probably isn't the best
approach
