The ability to remember a small Executive-branch pecadillo like Iran-

Contra places you in an exceedingly small group of haters with long
memories over nothing much. There's been so much worse, before and
since.

I never hated Reagan when he was POTUS nor do I hate him now.
I did, in fact, vote for him in 1980 when he ran against Jimmy "4 More Years of
Malaise" Carter.
My own business experienced a boom under his administration, so, at the time, I
was content to overlook his shortcomings.
I retrospect I can see his failures as POTUS and as a man.

Honor? Revere? Celebrate his ideals?? Good lord! You make him sound like
some deity that must be worshipped. The man simply served as one of our
presidents as have many before him. He had his good points and his bad
points, as did most other presidents. I would "honor and revere" John
Wayne
before I would Reagan.

Reagan's legacy continue to be burnished by acolytes who forget what a
really
crappy president he was.- Hide quoted text -

Crappy is harsh and not justified. Charming and lucky are certainly
correct.
_______________

I felt comfortable with him during his years as our president. However,
having been a movie-goer through most of his film career, I often found it
difficult later to separate the movie star from the president. Celebrating
his 100th birthday is a no-brainer. Revering him as some kind of savior is
a bit over the top, IMO.

I'm only going to say that I thought Reagan was a great President. A
lot of people complain, "Obama inherited Bush's recession," let's
remember Reagan inherited Carter's. There are good and bad to be
found in every Presidency.

What is often not sighted is the fact that Reagan freed more people from
tyranny than any other human being in history. If you consider the Soviet
Union and it's eastern bloc neighbors as a gigantic prison camp populated by
hundreds of millions of people who were all freed directly by Reagan, the
greatness of this man starts to approach not other founding fathers of our
nation, but some of the great men of recorded history including biblical
history. He can truly be considered a type of Moses of our time, leading the
children of communism out of bondage. His work though is not done. Communism
and Socialism are on the march once again and now the world needs a new set
of leaders who are teachable like Reagan was to learn from Reagan's glorious
and humble life how to free
another generation from the shackles of tyranny once again.

God bless and thank you to Ronald Reagan for his life and God bless him on
his now infinite journey through Heaven. He improved our lives in ways we
will never be able to repay.

Reagan certainly was lucky and it can't be denied he had a certain charm.
Nevertheless, I stand by my original assessment of his presidency -
especially
the last few Alzheimer years when Nancy took over while Ronnie was busy
smearing
his feces on the wall of the Oval Office.
Doesn't anybody remember Iran-Contra and the huge budget deficits he ran
up?

Some people here have already accused Beanie of being RF and I was far
from certain as there seemed to be a bit of softness in the character
of Beanie that you'd never accuse RF of having. But a great antipathy
towards Reagan was one of the hallmarks of RF and so MAYBE Beanie is
RF IF RF has had some sort of a small stroke or something to take the
edge off of him.

"Small Executive-branch pecadillo"? Your ability to trivialize Iran-Contra
like that places you in the group of blinkered Reagan idolizers who never
saw a conservative they didn't adore.

If Obama had broken the law and done violence to U.S. foreign policy the way
Iran-Contra did, you'd be howling for his head on a silver platter.

It's too bad Finnan's first suicide attempt failed and just left him
even more of a vegetable than he was, Not to even mention that those of
us who actually work for a living are paying for him.

Next time for sure!

Your Beltway myopia shows through again and gain and again. I'd like
to give you credit, but in fact you're a product of a petri-dish
filled with self-important people who don't realize how little
"Flyover America" doesn't share your values.

Indeed, while revering the memory of and most thankful for the
Gipper's service to the nation, I prefer more economical and
economically sensible forms of modern medallic tribute.

My objection in this thread was to the reference to Ronald Reagan as
"pot smoking". I'm sure that you ought to leave that specific
attrubute to his fer-**** kids.

I agree, we should remember the man for what he did.

Record deficits, tax hikes, cut and run out of Lebanon, arms for
hostages and dealing with terrorists.

Although, he did make people feel good when he was acting like an
honorable man leading a great nation.

Yes, only if you consider this ridiculous statement.
