Default Customs/Export Regulations

Hi all,

I have a question regarding customs. A winner from Japan
purchased a coin from me on eBay, and wants it shipped to Japan. He
wanted me to send it through Global Express Mail, but it was rejected by
the USPS for Customs Restrictions. It says in the URL below that the
only acceptable methods of sending are through insured parcel post and
registered letter-post.

http://pe.usps.gov/text/Imm/immicl/immiclhk_014.html

Now, having said this, I e-mailed the purchaser, and he is insistent
upon having the item sent through either Express Mail or through
Priority Mail, none of appear to meet the postal requirements.

Any suggestions (and cheating is not an answer)?

Thanks,

Mike

I'd say that you have the two choices that USPS will allow, and the winner
will just have to accept the fact. Then you both will have to let customs
land where it lands. It may depend on how you describe the contents. You
can be creative without being dishonest. I seem to remember a recent thread
here on r.c.c. about this.

It's getting more interesting. The buyer is already mentioning that if
the item is lost, I'll be fully responsible. More like a threat than
an actual reminder. He already said that the transaction is going
poorly too, and it hasn't been a week yet.

From now on, only U.S. shipments.

Well, it seems you put the wrong entry on the customs form. Round metal
disks? Collectible playthings? Anything but "Coins of numismatic value."
will work. Keep any reference to what is being shipped off the customs
declaration. Elementary knowledge.
