Unfortunately the designer died in 1990 (age 77)
so we cannot ask him..

Francisco Eppens Helguera (1913-1990) was a
Mexican artist who designed various paintings,
murals and sculptures in Mexico. He was born
in San Luis Potosí. Some of his pantings
included "Las Hermanas" (The Sisters) and
"Contrafuertes Coloniales" (Colonial Contafuertes).

Eppens is also credited for designing the 1968
version of the Mexican coat of arms, which is still
used today on government documents, coins and
the national flag.

Death warmed up (not a lot!)

There used to be so many attractive Canadian stamps. I stopped collecting them
in the late 1960's, and recent developments have put me off restarting
the collection!

A moody old "justice", for my taste,
she should be proud and unbiased.
and...Isn't she supposed to have a set of scales?

Look again.
It's two dodo's (the extinct bird). There's one on the right looking left
(we're seeing his left side), and the other one in the middle, partly
obscured by his companion, is facing us 3/4. Their long hooked bills measure
1/2 stamp height.

Two things amaze me:
- Dodo's couldn't fly, could they? Why put them on an air freight stamp?
- Why are they painted brown?

After 3 years of looking at this issue, I still cannot
make out just what it is.
A dove with long range fuel tank?

This even beats Bob's vote of Canada's Marconi
issue with the green face.

Apologies for poor scan quality.

Hey Jan,
whatever you are smoking,
can I have some?

I cannot see any artist, (SNAPO excepted),
having a Dodo, as a "symbol of flight"

We tried to hire all of the Dodo Birds we could, but like some - they
have trouble finding their invisible hologram stamps - we were
unsuccessful in our attempt for Global Carpet (tm) rate carriers.
