What I'd really like is a set of Cape triangles.

Yeah! come to think of it, I guess I would swap a penny black for
a MNH of my favourite,
Oceanic Settlements SG0128 (1939) New York Exposition

My current example is a right dodgy piece of work

3) When trading with people, I shoot for non-damaged copies.

Once, many years ago I submitted early Italian stamps (19th century)
to a new stamp exchange. I made a special effort to find centered ones
but even the best ones had somewhat offset margins. The exchange
owner rejected them all demanding perfect centering. (So I dropped
from that exchange)

These type of traders should look elsewhere for their perfect
copies. They should know better that most people will not be having
multiple copies of these items just sitting around.

I have seen this with Round Robin trading in stamp clubs. You get a
specialist involved. He wants X,Y,Z in the high CV area. Of course,
if you had X,Y,Z you wouldn't be sending them out in a Round Robin!
I think they are quite foolish to believe that getting involved with a
Round Robin or simple trading situation that they will get higher
quality material from general collectors.

It takes all kinds.

Well there's no mustard in this one........
(but you do get 4 stamps for the price of one)

I can imagine as the sheets whizzed through the perforator,
the operator was out the back, daydreaming over his Paella,

Then when he arrived back, Whoa!
( not the time to ask for a raise.)

He was out there smoking a joint. :^)

Spanish stamps are notorious for most of them being off-center, as per
my recent posts mentioned.

I must be the only guy around without a penny black.
(only ever seen one, and that was behind glass)
I gotta have some pleasure.

Many dealers and auctions list Penny Blacks at very
reasonable prices. Lists I have show prices of three-
margin examples at anything from £16-£60 each.

Let me know if you have trouble in locating one for
your collection.

Also is graded on the type of cancel. Some are rare, are they not?

Hardly the only one. FWIW, I don't have one either.

But that's okay, I'm not that keen on having one. What I'd really like
is a set of Cape triangles. I have a tough time understanding why they
cost as much as they do, considering how many there seem to be out
there. I could solve the problem by throwing money at it, but for some
reason that seems like it would be cheating. Oh well.

Aren't the woodblocks the heavier CV stamps? I responded to an offer
from a company in the UK a few years ago and they stated that they
would send a beautiful Penny Black, 6 better Cape triangles and a
smattering of Commonwealth worth owning. I went for it. Cost me
about $500, but it was well worth it.

Amazingly, the sacks of triangles that came back with sailors are
probably still being hoarded somewhere in Gibbons' back rooms.

Yes indeed, some are of different colours, as well as design.
Too complex to cover in a single message!

Season's Greetings to all,

David.
