1997 miss-printed US Penny
I have subj penny that looks normal except for the fact of a "ghost image"
of the front of the coin on the back. Like two heads. The front also has a triangle like impression from mid-head to the edge of the coin over the back of the head. The back head is raised from the coin and if you stand the coin up, they both face the same direction. Based on this description, could it be authentic? If so, would it be worth anything? Thank you. -- Slackware Tips & Tricks - http://members.cox.net/laitcg/slack.htm P3Scan - Transparent POP3 virus/spam/mime/html scanning proxy: http://p3scan.sourceforge.net |

Sounds like a die clash to me. Happens when the dies strike each other
without a planchet between them and the impression of one die is impressed into the other. If that's what it is, then all coins struck by the die pair after the clash will have the same image, more or less. There may be just a few or hundreds of thousands. That's my guess from your description, sight unseen, what do the experts have to say? Jerry |
