It adds up
1996 -- Edmonton, Alberta, transit worker Salim Kara, 44, was sentenced to four years in prison in March for a 13-year scheme of stealing coins from fare machines. Using a rod with amagnet on the end, he had patiently amassed $2.3 million (Canadian). No one suspected Kara until he bought an $800,000 house on a salary of $38,000.

I was staying at a hotel in downtown Atlanta once. I was looking out the window and someone was plucking bills out of a parking lot cashbox with a coathanger. I called the front desk and within about 30 seconds security (or a cop dressed as a bellhop) was out there with a gun trained on the guy. Not 5 minutes later another one showed up. Another phone call, same result, except the second one got to feel the barrel of the gun on the back of his head and probably filled his drawers in the process. There's nickel in them thar hills. John Baumgart |

Alan 'thank you, Chuck Shepard' Holy smokes, that is patience. That's something like $700-800 a day. Dan 'Bet he had a perfect attendance record' |
