Cheap Bookshelves
I'm looking for a cheap temporary shelving solution for some books and
was wondering what you all recommend. Here's the situation: * My domestic partner just bought a bunch of books at auction. Exact count is unknown but my rough guess is 3000 or so. 90% are standard paperbacks and the rest assorted sizes of hard & softbound. * We have a relatively empty room to put them in for now but no free shelving. She wants to set up shelves and sort from the boxes onto these new shelves, sorting by author. * Once all the sorting is done, the stuff that gets integrated into her inventory goes online and gets filed, while the rest is disposed of in whatever manner seems best. * At this point we will no longer need these shelves, and we will then use this relatively empty room for something else. It's not suitable for long-term storage of books but is OK for the timeline we have in mind. Bearing all this in mind, what are your suggestions for the shelving? We would like it to be cheap, and looks are not a factor, but it has to be strong enough to hold those books for a couple of months or so. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate. Thanks. |

To shelve all simultaneously would require more than 250 feet of shelving, which at 7 shelves high would need 36 linear feet of wall. You may find it faster to short this quantity first into Keep and Dump and only later worry about alphabetical order. When you know how many you wish to shelve, you can estimate the cost of suitable shelving. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

You might want to try that. |

That will shorten the job. A dealer I know keeps most in boxes and goes through about 800 to 1,000 a month, so that it does not become unpleasant work. The rest wait to the next month. Francis A. I'd recommend your nearest Ikea store, they have great shelving. Then resell
them when done. "Some Guy" wrote in message ... I'm looking for a cheap temporary shelving solution for some books and was wondering what you all recommend. IKEA does have some great stuff, but I'm just gonna guess -- since the
original post was made on January 28 -- that it's a moot point by now. Alice May 21, 2007 "marcusdave" wrote in message ink.net... I'd recommend your nearest Ikea store, they have great shelving. It's doubly moot, since my partner unfortunately passed away in March at the relatively young age of 46. Now I'm having to dispose of all this excess inventory before it could even be organized (well, all the inventory, actually). |
