Default Pricey Collectable Paperback Repair Advice

I recently acquired a difficult to find modern paperback, "Starshine" by
Brice Taylor. It was quite expensive, but this was the only listing I had
seen anywhere for quite some time.

The book is in "good" condition, which of course means it is beat to hell.
The most disturbing damage is a deep, deep crease in the front cover that
runs all the way from the top to the bottom about 1 1/2in from the fore
edge. It is actually three separate creases, about 1mm apart. It looks as
if someone dropped the book and it folded the cover and 30-40 pages under
it's own weight.

Now whenever I read the book the bend in the pages tends to want to bend
back the cover more at the crease. Each time this happens it takes off a
few tiny flecks of color and looks as if it is weakening the cover so that
it might eventually split.

Is there any way to repair this type of damage, without botching the book
and reducing it's valuable as a collectable?

Any recommendations?
