50 lbs of US clad coins
My 90 year old father just gave me two coffee cans full of paper rolled clad
US coins. He said there is no silver in the cans. All appear to be circulated. There are about 55 Eisenhower clad circulated dollars. The rest are all denominations. My inclination since there is no intrinsic value is to spend them. Am I correct? |

Unless you want to sort for die variations and whatnot, that's probably your best bet. |

If you ever set up at a flea market they go like hotcakes at $1.25 each just because they havent been made in 25 years and most people have never seen them. My 90 year old father just gave me two coffee cans full of paper rolled clad US coins. He said there is no silver in the cans. All appear to be circulated. My inclination is to spend them. My Mother, who has the Paper-Money bug, is on a limited coin journey. She saves all silver that crosses her path, and sets aside all Wheat Back cents. Everything else she accumulates, she rolls and sells to me at face value for searching. I'd do just as you indicate - take 'em to the bank, pay a bill - if it weren't for my "roll collection" (1 roll each Mintmark, for each Date, of current circulated type {no proof, silver, or special issue} of 1¢ from 1959 - 1982, 1¢ from 1982 - present, 5¢ from 1938 - present, 10¢ from 1965 - present, & 25¢ from 1965 - 1998 coin). My guess is that my "circ-roll" collection is about 60% complete - maybe a bit more. [[FYI: the face value of such a collection, when complete, would be about $1,300.oo]] 8-/ Coin Saver |
