I have recently updated my list of known die numbers on UK coins of Victoria.

Have a look at
http://www.tclayton.demon.co.uk/dieno.html

Any additions welcomed.

With regards to the sovereigns you've missed 1866 dated sovereigns off
the list (i have one with die number 30) and i also have a 1865
sovereign with die number 22.

Sylvester.

The 1866's were there, just that the line break had not been put in.

Both items mentioned are new, and have been added with due acknowledgement.

Many thanks.

I'm afraid i didn't see the '66s on the first visit.

I have been considering collecting sovereigns by die number for some
time, however up until now i hadn't found anywhere where 'all/most'
known combinations were written down so that i could see how large a
task it would be. All i can say is it's going to take many years to
complete the task if i decide to take it on, but it should be
interesting nonetheless. Furthermore if i come across any more
unrecorded numbers in my wanderings then i'll inform you for you
website.

If one assumes that all die numbers for each year up to the highest known
exist, then, ignoring the questionable 163 for 1873, you will have no less
than 888 sovereigns to acquire.

Having gone away and done some calculations, where did you get 888
from exactly? Have you included all the Australian stuff and all the
St George and the Dragon reverse stuff? I got something more in the
line of 300 or there abouts, i can't quite remember the exact number.

Sylvester.

Adding up the highest die numbers known for each date!
