Bust dollars
Just had some fun finishing a fairly significant enhancement to my
site on Draped Bust coins: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/reidgo...sts/index.html Increased the number of bogus Bust dollars illustrated from 9 to 16: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/reidgo...ts/page_7.html Added a section on Bust dollar replicas: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/reidgo...s/page_7a.html Added a section on ugly Bust dollars: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/reidgo...s/page_6a.html Increased the number of overgraded Bust dollars illustrated to 7: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/reidgo...ts/page_8.html Added the last coin in my now completed holed Heraldic Eagle Bust dollar set: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/reidgo...ts/page_6.html As usual, I'm open to suggestions, corrections, digs, sarcasm, insults, flames, threats, shouts, curses, name-calling, and so on (though I won't see any from the Usual Suspects). -- Coin Collecting: Consumer Guide: http://rg.ancients.info/guide Bogos: Counterfeit Coins: http://rg.ancients.info/bogos Glomming: Coin Connoisseurship: http://rg.ancients.info/glom |

This is an example of the Bust dollar counterfeit that I'm calling "Lightweight" at my site. They are showing up more and more frequently on eBay, almost always sold as replicas. I've seen this same type dated 1796 and 1797 (with the Heraldic Eagle reverse of the later dates), 1798, 1799, 1801, 1803, and 1804. -- Coin Collecting: Consumer Guide: http://rg.ancients.info/guide Bogos: Counterfeit Coins: http://rg.ancients.info/bogos Glomming: Coin Connoisseurship: http://rg.ancients.info/glom |

Reid, why did you allow your dollar to get busted?

No edge seems -- the reeded edge hides that -- but it has the characteristic casting bubbles when looked at under magnification. -- Coin Collecting: Consumer Guide: http://rg.ancients.info/guide Bogos: Counterfeit Coins: http://rg.ancients.info/bogos Glomming: Coin Connoisseurship: http://rg.ancients.info/glom |
