Norton is a mediocre (at best) AV program with a great PR team. I have
always found other AV programs catching stuff Norton's misses. McAfee is
even more useless, if that's possible.

That might be good as a backup or something but I wouldn't run my
computer without real time monitoring and real time email scanning.

I've used lots of different AV apps and found Norton to be the best
- bar none. I used it professionally until I retired and use it on
my PC at home too. It catches all manner of crap other people
spread around.
