What kind of font is used on U.S. currency serial numbers?

Does anybody know what kind of font was used for serial numbers on U.S. currency, i.e. series 1928-1995 Federal Reserve Notes?

It's still being used today. I assume that for security reasons, it is
a font that nobody else uses. For example, I have never seen a '6' or
'9' printed anywhere else in the style used in FRN serial numbers.

Three different fonts have been used since 1928. The first is distinct
from the others, and was used on series 1928,1929,1933, and 1934. The
second and third are nearly identical. They are used on all series 1935
and later. The third was introduced when the use of the COPE machines
