Dale Hallmark pondered a bit, and then provided this observation:
Looks very nice but I think I will have to pass on this one.............maybe. Aw, go ahead and let 'er rip, Dale! Be bold! Be strong! Flex your numismatic muscles and show the world that there ain't no challenge that you'll back down from! BTW, I note that the seller stipulates that "serious bidders only" are the ones he wants to participate in this auction. It would indeed be VERY serious for me, in that the opening bid is more than I paid for the last two new cars that became a part of my family! On another plane of thought, you and I have seen some mighty strange things happen within the hallowed halls of eBay. Someone may come along with more moola than brains, and then... well, you know the story. Say, you might be interested in knowing that while I was polishing my boots a moment ago, I suddenly saw the visage of a famous religious personage in my shoe polish! I hurriedly grabbed it up and locked it in my safe while I ponder on the next course of action to take! Larry 'anything for a buck, or LOTS of them' |

Some lady tossed it to me from a Marti Gras float when I lifted my shirt and showed her my bellybutton. Hit me right between the eyes with it too. Cliff |

Dale I always try to keep a few portrait coins around (Leo Hogmouth, etc.) so that no matter what I see in the mirror in the a.m. there is always something uglier that I can look at. Cliff :-))))))))) Looks quite real to me and a nice example to boot but a bit pricey I would say. Needs to be weighed before bidding and start it at $100 and there will be a lot of bidders if the weight is correct. Dale |

It would indeed be VERY serious for me, in that the opening bid is more than I paid for the last two new cars that became a part of my family! But Larry, he does encourage you to make an offer via his email address. You could always make him an offer of $5 or so and copy ebay in on it. I'm sure that ebay will just love that when someone points it out to them :0). ...... Someone may come along with more moola than brains, and then... well, you know the story. That is exactly what the seller is counting on. The coin looks like a fake to me from a quick look at it. Sure, there may very well be variants of that coin, but the one in Krause he delights in referring to has the obv. legend ending with POLO. and not the POLOM. as appears on his coin. The design of the truncation is also significantly different, as is the denticulation type. Nope. Whatever else it might be, it's not the one in Krause :-) I'm just surprised that they are asking for payment via paypall as opposed to Western Union. |
