Default paper money books

I have seen that there are many guides pertaining to paper money. Can
anyone recommend a good guide for identification purposes?

Thanks, Jim

My favorite is the Standard Guide to Small-Size U.S. Paper Money for small
size notes.

The Krause "Standard Catalog of World Paper Money" is the most comprehensive.
Your local library may have a copy or can borrow one for you.

For "Modern" US Currency (small size; post 1928), I use "Standard Guide To
Small-Size U.S. Paper Money, 1928 to Date", by Dean Oakes and John Schwartz;
ISBN 0-87349-675-2 ... Krause carries this item. See their website at:

Barnes and Noble has a decent selection of the basic coin and currency books
including Krause's world currency catalog.

You would probably have a better
chance of finding it there than at
a public library. You can preview
it or just check out certain sections
and not have to fork over the $50+ for a copy if you decide against it.
