Default An Exception to the Rule

I had a customer ask me a question about those Readers Digest Condensed
Books. I remarked that I put themn out for three for a dollar because
they're usually worthless and hard to get rid of. He caught my "usually" and
asked me if there were any exceptions to the rule. ... I had no idea. I'm
still a beginner at this bookseller business (I'm part time from my home),
and I couldnt think of a single exception. So ... is there such a thing as a
valuable Readers Digest Condensed Book?

The first four issues, from 1950, in dj, are apparently quite sought after.

Put on a poncho, played for mosquitos,
And drank til I was thirsty again
We went searching through thrift store jungles
Found Geronimo's rifle, Marilyn's shampoo
And Benny Goodman's corset and pen"

I remember that. I believe it was one of the earliest editions, and it still
had the dust jacket.

No, actually it was the one with 100
shares of IBM pasted to the inside back
cover. (Considered highly desirable
by discerning collectors everywhere).
