New to coin collecting. Does the value of a coin deminish if you
remove a coin from the plastic holder to put into an album or
folder.

If the plastic holder is sealed and labeled by one of the top grading
companies, breaking the coin out may make it less attractive to potential
buyers if you ever want to sell it, especially if it has been graded as
uncirculated (MSxx). Otherwise, its value to YOU is what counts. If you
have a hole in an album that needs to be filled, and you obtained that coin
to place in the hole, go for it.

Yep, go right ahead and bust out that PCGS MS70 coin from its holder.
Nobody will ever care when you try to resell it.
Great advice...not!

What plastic holder? The value of the coin will demenesh if you take the
safety pin out of your spoiled brat's diaper and use it to put a big long
scratch down the front of it.

I thought I made it clear enough that breaking out an uncirculated (MS) coin
might not be wise if you ever plan to resell it. I guess not. Unless you
didn't bother to read what I said.

"Go for it" was clearly an exhortation to crack that old slabaroo open.

Clearly? I said that if he bought a slabbed coin to fill an album hole,
then he should go ahead if that's his wish. To me, "Go for it" simply meant
for him to do whatever he wants to, considering the cautions that I or
anyone else offered about Unc coins. It's his collection and he should
organize and display it however he likes. I doubt that someone who has to
ask about the merits of leaving a coin in its slab is apt to be referring to
the "PCGS MS70" coins you cited. I have bought PCGS-slabbed coppers knowing
I would be cracking them out simply because I prefer them that way. On the
other hand, my PCGS-slabbed MS stuff I always leave that way.

I might have added that if his slabbed coin is a key date/mint in a
particular set-- one that is often copied, altered, or counterfeited-- that
he would be better served by leaving it in the slab and live with the hole
in the album.

Hey sarge, you cretin, try investing in a spell checker.
Every time you post you show the world that you are practically
illiterate.

RF's reply was the correct one, if a bit terse/sarcastic. He was
hardly "running off at the mouth". If one attempts to use sarcasm
here on RCC, it seems you have to lay it on really thick or people
won't get it. And RF is correct that Sarge is an illiterate blight
and embarassment to this forum.
