PLEASE HELP a novice collector
Hi
We know nothing about collecting and don't want to walk into the local coin store and just ask "How much will you give us for this? We found a couple of coins around late Grandfather's house..... + one is Mexico 1983 has a goldish center surrounded by silver-ish outer ring, says N$5 in the center gold ring and some sort of bird-creature on the back + other is Bahamas 1974 says "Five Dollars" on one side, above the flag, flip side says Commonwealth of the Bahamas above some sort of "coat of arms" and 1974 below it ..could use a cleaning as it seems like someone dropped a rum&coke on it and just left it years ago Does anyone know how much they might be worth so that we don't get ripped off on eBay? Thanks in advance |

The nuevo peso (N$) was introduced in 1993; three years later the "nuevo" (new) was dropped, so now it's a plain peso again. Assuming yours is from 1993, such a N$5 coin is worth 45 US cents in terms of exchange rates, maybe a little more for collectors if the coin is nicely preserved. That bird thing is an eagle. Actually that side shows the Mexican coat of arms - the eagle on a cactus, with a snake. It is a symbol already used by the Aztecs. could use a cleaning That is something you should usually not do with coins ... Christian |

This one should actually be 1993 KM #552. Probably worth a couple of bucks. $5 at the most. Assuming KM #67 on the Bahamas coin, I'd also say a couple of bucks if not BU. -- BA "Ich liebe es, wenn mir die Taler auf die Glatze prasseln." (Onkel Dagobert) |

The Bahamian dollar is at par with the US$, so a minimum of $5 for that one. Some of them at least are silver, so probably a bit above that for the metal content.
