Default Earth Sea or Sky

My mother has hundreds of old books and is looking for a place to find out
the value of them. She wants them to be taken care of after she leaves but
doesn't want to just give them away.
Is there a site on the net that can give her this info.

Thanks

There are three sites which will give you dealers' asking
prices for millions of books titles from around the English
speaking world. The first two trawl all the other sites
and so should show the most results.

http://www.bookfinder.com/

http://www.addall.com

While the largest single site is

http://www.abebooks.com/

There are three points you need to bear in mind.

Condition is all important. This includes the external condition
of the book, and wear or fading to the covers. And any stains and
marks etc. Internal condition whether the pages are crisp and fresh,
or have started going brown, or are dog-eared etc. And again whether
there are any stains, marks, or writing. And also completeness.
Whether there are any missing pages or illustrations.

Second, Edition. Edition is equally important, where desirability and
prices are concerned and may often be decided on minor details. One
edition may be worth 1000 times another one, the differnce being just
one figure printed on the copyright page. The same with Book Club editions
which can resemble the "real thing" except for certain minor details
and which will be worth considerably less.

Again the presence of a dustwrapper or dust jacket if called for.
The absence of a dustjacket can reduce the value of a book to
a dealer or collector by up to 90%

Lastly never forget that the prices shown on all these sites
are dealers' asking prices. That doesn't mean they're going to
find a buyer at that price. And what's more if you wanted to
sell the same book to them, then they might offer you between
40% and 10% of their typical asking price. Depending on whether
they had a buyer lined up.

But at least you should be able to check you're not letting
any real "treasures" slip through your fingers for peanuts.
