Default Phileas Ink Flow

As I said in another post, I recently purchased the Waterman Phileas.
By and large I'm quite happy with the purchase. The nib is
exceptionally smooth, and the balance and feel is exactly what I was
looking for. I am having a problem though. I find that that ink flow
is a touch inconsistent. It's not that it skips or anything, but I
find the line to be heaver when I first begin writing, then after a
line or two, it becomes lighter. After I pause for a bit (30 seconds
to a minute), the ink flows more heavily again and then tapers down
after writing. Is this normal behaviour? I am using Quink Blue, so I
doubt it's that, and I am just wondering if I'm being nit-picky? Any
help would be appreciated.

How recently did you purchase it? You may be able to exchange it for
another one. Easier for you than trying to fix it.

I just bought it on Thursday, so it's within just a few days. After
writing some more with it tonight, I found I was getting more perturbed
at it. I would think on such a pen, ink flow shouldn't be a real
issue. I'm going to call tomorrow and see what they say, but I'm
worried they'll say I'm being too much of a perfectionist. Still,
I find it quite distracting (and dismaying) that the ink flow seems to
be off as much as it is.

50-cent pens write properly. You have a right to expect your pen to be
at least as good. Waterman service is not nit-picky about exchanging
defective pens - you shouldn't have a problem.

this is not normal for a Phileas. Every one I've owned or used has had very
consistent medium flow (10? 12?). neither too wet nor dry. so I would not
accept this behavior and would contact WM CS.

1-800-BESTPEN

definitely get it taken care of. WM customer service has a good reputation.

Thanks for the advice. I called the place where I bought the pen, and
she said that she didn't have any more Phileas's in stock, and she
would look at it and if needed send it off for warrenty. I was hoping
she'd just give me a replacement pen because I've only had it for a
couple days. I'm hoping that they'll realize that it's valid
complaint. I mean, the pen still writes, but I find that it gets
lighter when I write for an extended period. It's not terribly light,
but I find it changes the writing characteristics because there is less
ink to libricate the nib. I'll let you know what I find out.

Good recommendation! Many new pens have a residue from manufacturing that
gives flow problems. I clean all my new pens with a mixture a few drops of
liquid soap in a cup if water; followed by rinsing with clear water of
course.

I have tried cleaning... no avail. I'm going to take it back to the
store where I bought it and see what they say... unfortunately I won't
be able to go back until Saturday. Waterman said the store should give
me a replacement, so that sounds positive... I'll let you know how it
turns out.

Doesn't this just devil you?! I cannot stand it when I have a pretty
new pen, and it just won't work right. I become obsessed until the
problem is fixed. :-)
