Author's Edition: What is the meaning of that phrase?
Can someone tell me the meaning of the phrase "Author's edition?" How
does an author's edition differ from any other? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

Thank you. sometimes when an author is less known the editors will "urge" him to cut parts of a book. later when he is better known, they might republish it as an "author's edition". stephen king's the stand and raymond feist's magician come to mind. Robert Thank you for the prompt answer and please forgive my ignorance. Does that mean that the "author's edition" is the same as the one AFTER the author made the cuts, or is it an edition with the cut portions placed back in, since author is now better known? |

There's another meaning of the term "author's edition": it can refer to
specially bound copies that the author commissions from the publisher at the time of the books' printing, to give as presentation copies to friends and perhaps to keep for himself. E.R. Eddison, for example, had his publishers issue specially bound "author's editions" of his novels, printed on highher-quality paper; usually he limited these to 12 and they are all quite scarce.
