Anyone know how to remove paper on cloth-bound cover?
There is a 19th Century cloth-bound book that
has a thin strip of paper stuck to the cover. It doesn't look like there is glue on it, just water adhered the paper to it over a long period of time. Does anyone know a good way to remove this? -- Robert Pearson ParaMind Brainstorming Software http://www.paramind.net Telical Books http://www.telicalbooks.com Regenerative Music http://www.regenerativemusic.net/ |

It is an amazing cleaning agent that does not stain cloth bindings and does loosen such problem materials. Accept no substitutes; it is not the fact that it is also a lighter fluid, but its particular chemical composition that makes it so useful. It is also useful to remove glued on library stickers or scotch tape. -- Francis A. It is likely to remove dye from the fabric. I would avoid water. If any water got on to paper parts of the book, it could irreparably damage them. -- Francis A. Solvents like naptha are generally ineffective against water soluable adhesives, or at least less effective than water alone. I'm not suggesting he soak the book, just the adhered paper. If water stuck it there as the OP claims, water will likely remove it, and if the dye underneath was water soluable the damage has obviously already been done. |
