(Mike Diamond) points out.....

The clad layer on the bottom of a clad coin blank is "smeared" onto the edge

of
the blank when it's forced by the blanking "die" into a hole in a perforated
"base plate".The shearing action that occurs as the blank is forced into the
hole drags some of the clad layer onto the edge of the blank.

You wouldn't be teasin with my emotions would ya, cuz that sounds extremely
sensible...............8^)

Thanx. I wonder how many others here knew that?

Always here for my fellow syngraphist or oenophile.
