Looks genuine but in such poor condition it's not worth much. I don't
think it's an English or British note. It looks like American Colonial
currency. I tried to make out the writing on it.... Colony of
Connecticut, June 10, 1776.

Yes indeed Tom, it says Hartford, so it is Connecticut, so it will benefit
note.boy to the tune of less than $10 for what in all appearances is indeed
authentic, but really not collectible in such poor condition novelty. The
backing on it is probably contemporary to the time, these notes were
notorious for splitting because of the paper manufacture. It is common to
find them backed or even sewn together like this one from my own collection:

This one was probably one of my most inexpensive Colonial note purchases.
