1804 silver dollar sells for $2.5 million
This coin literally has doubled in value in three years. It's the
Adams specimen, Class III, probably made in 1858. It's last appearance
at a public auction was in July 2003 when it brought $1,207,500, the
first Class III 1804 dollar to break the million dollar mark.
Three of the six known Class III specimens are in museums: Smithsonian,
ANA, and American Numismatic Society.
