Hi all,
die cut gummed
die cut self adhesive
and perfed gummed
In Canada , we also have perfed self adhesive.
2 kinds of gummed and 1 of adhesive?? I do not understand this, for me
it's 2 kinds of adhesive and 1 kind of gummed but it's hard technical
terms in my head...
and in my Canada collection, sometimes I'm very confused in
identifying die-cut serpentine adhesive and so on stamps
(
However, I believe that they are fake perfs
and are part of the die cut to make people
relate to them as "real stamps".
For Australia, it's quite easy I think, I will try to explain ;o)
For me, there are 3 kinds of stamps (it's my personnal terms, not
official) and it corresponds (in order of appearance) at the stamps on
this page:
url:http://perso.wanadoo.fr/philatelie-et-cie/imagesdiverses/WAGSAaustralia.jpg
-gummed
the more simple, perfed water-activated stamps ;o)
perf. 14*14 1/2
it looks like a 'real and traditionnal' stamp, easy to recognise
-self-adhesive 'classical'
peel & stick corresponding to die-cut adhesive if I well understood
perf. 11 1/2
it's really different from the gummed and easy to recognise
-sel-adhesive '2nd perf'
peel & stick corresponding to perfed adhesive I guess
perf. 12 1/2*13
it looks like a 'gummed' stamp without attention, but when the
difference is known, it's easy to separate it from the true gummed.
That's for the basis, not too much difficult is it?? ;o)
In addition and according to the Scott, there are issues in coil
serpentine die cut and booklet serpentine die cut or issues in die-cut
and serpentine die-cut, but I do not understand the difference...
It's the same perf of 11 1/2, so any explanation is appreciated.
Michel catalogue gives some varieties of perf for the self-adhesive
classical, but as I said in a previous post, it's too much specialised
for the moment. Let's begin with the 2 kinds of adhesive, take a look
at your stamps, and in the future I can give the Michel details if you
want ;o)
For the 'australian-addict' beginners, I will list the issues with
adhesive stamps (it's a long text). I specify when it's an 'adhesive
2nd perf'.
The first p&s are 2 sports stamps issued in 1990 and 1991:
41c cycling Scott 1185 (issued gummed in 1989)
43c skateboarding Scott 1186 (issued gummed in 1990)
The second p&s set is 'threatened species' issued for expos in 1992
6*45c Scott 1241-1246
(a lot of imprints later in 1994 with NPC inscriptions and different
values)
After this, p&s issues appear more often :
1993 australian trains
6*45c Scott 1330-1335
1993 Dinosaurs
2*45c Scott 1348-1349
1994 Zoos
2*45c Scott1390-1391
it's the first time that p&s and gummed have a different design : p&s
stamps have a white border
1994 Sydney-Hobart Race
2*45c Scott 1397-1397A
1994 ATM Triangle Roo
6*45c Scott 1398-1405
Note: it's self-adhesive stamps but it looks like gummed stamps, this
set is apart in the p&s issues
1994 Roos and Koalas
6*45c Scott 1288-1293
(a lot of imprints later in 1994 with NPC inscriptions and different
values)
From the year 1995, self-adhesive issues are common and many sets have
the p&s stamps :
1995 WW II heroes
4*45c Scott 1436-1439
1995 Centenary of Cinema
5*45c Scott 1446-1450

2001 Rock and Pop 10*45c
2001 Outback services 5*45c

) )

2002 Lighthouses 2*49c
2002 Racing cars 6*45c
2002 Namatjira 4*45c
2002 Plants from the Bush 5*49c
2002 Magic Rainforest 6*45c
2002 Christmas 40c
For 2003, please see the details in the Oz 2003 topic. I think that
this post is long enough!
)
In conclusion, the '2d perf' adhesive is only present (for the moment)
in the Fauna & Flora issues, because of 2 different printers for these
sets.
I hope this description would be helpful, it is not clear, I will try
to 'speak' better or will ask Pierre for a very good translation !
I made a new topic because the post is a very long (I'm sorry for any
disturbance) and it's not related to the 2003 issues.
