@f14g2000cwb.googlegroups.com:

Will local currency (Ithaca Hours, etc.) replace national
currencies such as the dollar, yen, euro, etc.? Is there a trend toward
local currencies and are they going to become dominant over the
national ones? And will places with local currencies stop accepting the
dollar, yen, etc.?

Can't imagine local currencies will ever replace national currencies for a
number of reasons. The 2 biggest being....#1) local currency is worthless
outside the local area so you can forget about using it in interstate trade
or when travelling to another area.
#2) No bank will touch it because of reason #1.

Local currencies are a throwback to the 19th century. They didn't work then
and they'd be even worse now with our increasingly mobile society.
