ANA's "Discovery Guide"
Honored by
Colorado Society of Association Executives

The American Numismatic Association's (ANA) biannual "discovery
guide"--The World of Money--has received an achievement award from the
Colorado Society of Association Executives (CSAE).
The ANA--headquartered in Colorado Springs--is the world's largest
educational organization chartered by Congress for collectors of coins,
paper money, tokens and medals. Its discovery guide is an eight-page,
11 x 17-inch "newspaper" packed with ideas for introducing the joys of
coin collecting to the general public, young and emerging collectors,
families and educators. Complimentary copies are available at the ANA's
Money Museum, 818 N. Cascade Ave., which is free and open to the
public.
In recognizing the coin collecting guide, CSAE noted the ANA
publication is "friendly, easy-to-read and the articles are
interesting and fun. Packed with 'Know More' references, websites,
books and periodical information, our judges felt this publication was
truly a model for today."
Based in Denver, CSAE is an "association of associations" for more
than 250 executives who manage voluntary trade, professional,
educational, philanthropic, technical or similar type organizations in
Colorado.
Gail Baker, American Numismatic Association director of education
and a member of CSAE, submitted three 2002 publications for
judging--the ANA discovery guide, Summer Seminar course catalog and
Numismatist magazine--against others produced by associations with
budgets over $500,000.
The catalog describes the 34 classes and 13 mini-seminars being
offered at this year's two-week educational event that has attracted
450 students and instructors from across the country. This year marks
the Summer Seminar's 35th anniversary.
Numismatist is a 128-page magazine that has been issued for 116
years. The magazine changed its size and format this year to include
color images throughout the publication. It is mailed to the 30,000
members of the ANA, which was founded in 1891.
In presenting the award, officials from CSAE noted that all three
publications "are truly a credit" to the ANA, and the judges encouraged
members of the state organization "to review all the publications of
this association."
