Zimbabwe to Drop 10 Zeros in Currency Revaluation

According to news reports, Giesecke & Devrient GmbH supplied the paper but
the notes were printed in Zimbabwe by Fidelity. The thing that doesn't make
sense is that G&D is a printer, not a paper...

Zimbabwe to Drop 10 Zeros in Currency Revaluation

I don't think that saving paper has anything to do with this revaluation.
More like trying to save face, if you ask me. Obviously dropping the zeros
makes calculations (manual and computerized) much...

Currency featuring Pea Fowl

Earlier Burmese notes also have peacocks, such as this:

Zimbabwe to Issue 100 Billion Bearer Checks on Monday

I can't even begin to image how frustrating it must be to be a citizen under
this regime. I thought we had it bad in the US, but Mugabe makes Bush look
like a gentle genius.

BTW, I have worked up a...

How important is it to have 3 values in catalog?

Based upon the input of everyone in this forum, I can see that there would
be great resistance to dropping all but UNC prices from any catalog of
notes. Thanks to everyone for sharing their...

How important is it to have 3 values in catalog?

The problem as I see it is that there probably is no system in place for
justifying those values in the catalog. What's needed is documentation that
can be traced back with actual citations of dealer...

How important is it to have 3 values in catalog?

I agree that catalog values should be used only as a general guide, but some
of the SCWPM values are so far off the mark that they fail even this test.
Case in point are the many examples where the...

How important is it to have 3 values in catalog?

Thanks for your input. I guess if the data is available, it's worth
publishing in different grades, but I rarely see modern notes sold in
anything less than UNC.

How important is it to have 3 values in catalog?

I've been looking at the new SCWPM Modern Issues 14th edition and it
occurred to me that maybe it's unnecessary to include values for VG, VF, and
UNC when in my experience all most collectors want...

New edition of Standard Catalog of World Paper Money

Ronny,

Obviously you're no fan of the new catalog. ;)

I used to submit updates to Krause, but stopped after seeing they ignored
them year after year. Why solicit this info if you intend to ignore...

New edition of Standard Catalog of World Paper Money

Ronny,

Yes, I have already taken a look at the list with the help of an online
translation service. It's quite extensive. Why Krause fails to address these
many known issues is beyond me.

Alas, despite my last name, I am unable to read German. If you recount all
the errors, I am sure it's a very long list ;)

REQ: Comments on new "Pick" catalog

Michael,

I doubt that Krause will ever adopt your first suggestion as it's likely to
lead to a great reduction in revenue.

I don't believe that an annual update is impossible. In fact, my addendum...

New edition of Standard Catalog of World Paper Money

Matthew,

I agree. It's hard to believe that Krause thinks this is a major new
edition. Only five new Pick number notes are illustrated in the 14th
edition.

Meanwhile my book, The Banknote Update,...

The Samoa Dilemma

The problem is that Krause has changed its way of listing these countries.
What was "Korea, South" is now "South Korea," which is fine by me.

The Samoa Dilemma

I have been listing my notes the same way that the SCWPM lists them because
it's the way most dealers reference the notes. However, I'm getting fed up
with every issue of the catalog changing the...

New edition of Standard Catalog of World Paper Money

Donald,

I'm sorry, but there's no way I can agree with your conclusion that Krause
does a good job. My standards must be much higher than yours.

continuing to publish the printed books for those...

New edition of Standard Catalog of World Paper Money

The lack of inclusion of modern issues is appalling, especially considering
that while I was the editor of the IBNS newsletter, I routinely sent George
Cuhaj advanced copies of my New Notes section...

New edition of Standard Catalog of World Paper Money

I agree with most of your comments, but I don't think the catalog (at least
the 13th edition), is very good. It is too full of errors that have been
pointed out repeatedly, year after year. As you...

Yeah, I took advantage of the trial, too, and was also disappointed by the
lack of world paper money content. It's odd, because they've been
advertising the service in the IBNS Journal, but fail to...

New edition of Standard Catalog of World Paper Money

Take a look at Numismaster and you'll see the emphasis is on coins, not
banknotes. What little note info is up there is US notes, not world notes.
Clearly international paper money collectors don't...

I agree that an online version of the catalog would be desirable, but the
fact remains that print is far more convenience for a portable reference.
Also, don't forget that a huge portion of the...
